Two 16-year-old boys were released to their parents after their being arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a Costa Mesa country club, police said.

At about 2:30 a.m., the silent alarm was triggered in the Mesa Verde Country Club, Lt. Marty Carver said.

Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police surrounded the club and arrested the teens, of Costa Mesa and Buena Park, as they tried to leave with alcohol, playing cards and a fire extinguisher, Carver said.

Police would not release their names due to their age.

Inside, police found broken bottles and plastic chairs thrown over an embankment onto the putting range, officials said. Police suspect the boys got in through an unlocked door.

The boys were taken to the Costa Mesa police station. Carver said they will likely be charged with commercial burglary in Orange County Juvenile Court.
