Sage Hill School sophomore goalkeeper Hannah MacLeod was named Most Valuable Player of the Academy League, while head coach Nacho Cid was voted Coach of the Year.

Cid became the first coach to lead the Lightning girls’ soccer team to an Academy League title since the school’s inception.

MacLeod, who was also named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division VI team, had 94 saves in 19 games, and helped the Lightning record nine shutouts in their 13 wins. MacLeod allowed two goals through 10 Academy League games this year.

Harvard-bound senior Kellee Kim was a second-team All-CIF Division VI selection and one of the Lightning’s four all-league first-team honorees. She scored nine goals and led the team with six assists through 12 games.

Sara Montazami led Sage Hill with 14 goals in 22 games, while Jules McLaughlin was the key to the Lightning’s stingy defense. Captain Carolyn Witte had four assists and was named to the Divsion VI third team.

Kirby Anderson (nine goals, two assists), Jordan Team (five goals, one assist), and Megan Culberson (four assists) were all second-team picks for league.

This past season also marked the first time the Lightning (13-9-2, 9-0-1 in league) had ever beaten Academy League rival St. Margaret’s. Sage Hill defeated the Tartans 1-0 in San Juan Capistrano to win the league title after tying them 0-0 at home.
