Marina hits split
Before heading off for spring break, the Marina softball team got in a pair of nonleague games and got a split, winning at home but losing on the road.
Marina won its ninth game in 11 starts by defeating visiting El Toro, 3-1.
The Vikings scored twice in the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead and after the Chargers scored in the top of the fourth, the Vikings got that run back by scoring once in the fifth.
Freshman Jamie Sullivan doubled on offense and also went the distance on the mound. She limited the Chargers to just two hits and improved her record to 3-0.
In a prior game, Marina fell 5-0 at Kennedy. Allee Allen held the Vikings to three hits as the Fighting Irish, the No. 1-ranked team in CIF Division II, improved to 11-1.
Marina, ranked fifth in Division I, will play a nonleague game at 6 p.m. Friday at Woodbridge.

In baseball
Ocean View split two games Monday at the Anaheim Lions Tournament, winning and losing by identical scores of 7-2 over Riordan of San Francisco and San Clemente.
In the win over Riordan, Nick Schulenburg picked up his first varsity victory. Ocean View trailed 2-1 when Sean Burleson opened up the sixth inning with a solo home run to tie the game. The Seahawks took control by scoring five runs in the seventh capped by a two-out, two-run single by Robert Garay that sealed the game.
Last week, Ocean View ran its Golden West League record to 6-0 with a shutout win over Saddleback.
Burleson pitched a three-hit shutout and went the distance to improve to 2-3.

In lacrosse
Huntington Beach picked up a win in Sea View League action by edging host Woodbridge, 8-7, at Alton Park in Irvine.
Nick Refice scored three goals and had an assist, Liam Powers had a goal and three assists, Shayne Thomas a goal and two assists, Nick Soresi and Andrew Jackson each scored once with an assist, and Kevin Shepley registered 15 saves for the Oilers.
In previous league action, Huntington lost 15-4 to visiting El Toro and defeated host Northwood 7-3.
In the loss to El Toro, Thomas, Jackson, Kyle Peterson and Hunter Costin scored for the Oilers.
Costin also led the team in assists with two.
In the win over Northwood, Refice led the offense with three goals and Thomas scored twice. Soresi and Jackson each had a goal and assist and Shepley finished with 11 saves.
