JWA to close lanes for construction till May

John Wayne Airport plans to close traffic lanes on its east side beginning Monday while construction crews work on the area, a spokeswoman said Friday.

A stretch of Airport Way between Douglas and Campus Drive will narrow to one lane in each direction while crews build a left-turn lane into the nearby airfield. The closure is scheduled to last until some time in May.

Spokeswoman Jenny Wedge said she didn’t expect the closed lanes to slow traffic too much.

“The only time I could imagine it could get congested is maybe early in the morning, because that’s one of our earliest times of people coming in for the first flight,” she said. “But we don’t anticipate an ongoing slowdown, just maybe during some peak periods.”
