Neighbors in support of $900K alley renovation

The Costa Mesa City Council will likely move forward with the renovation of five alleyways in the city, including a controversial alley between Walnut and Esther streets.

That alley, the renovation of which had been challenged by a neighbor whose property abuts it, will move forward after her attempts to rehear the issue failed, said Public Services Director Peter Naghavi.

“One resident requested to continue this discussion, but City Council decided not to and we are moving forward with the design,” he said. “There are quite a few people who are in support of the project.”

One of those people, Cheryl Campbell, said she was looking forward to no longer having to dust her home frequently.

“I think it’s awesome,” she said. “It gets filthy in the house every time a car drives by.”

The total cost of improving the five alleyways is $900,000, according to staff reports.

The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the Council Chambers at 77 Fair Drive.
