San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO — The Orange Coast College men’s varsity eight won the collegiate varsity Cal Cup grand final Sunday on Mission Bay.

The Pirates boat, consisting of Kelly Hughes, Will Prioleau, Erich Hanxleden, Roger Huffman, Dan Dahlin, Steve Oesterich, Bobby Jacobs, James Long-Lerno and coxswain Michael Hinderberger, completed the 2,000-meter course in six minutes, 1.80 seconds, more than 10 seconds faster than runner-up UCLA.

UC Irvine finished sixth in the six-boat final of the women’s open class (7:45.58), while OCC was sixth in the women’s novice final (7:31.05).

STOCKTON — Senior Becky Bernhard won in singles and doubles to spearhead the Anteaters in the Big West Conference road match Sunday.

Bernhard defeated Jolanta Twarowska, 6-2, 1-6, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, then teamed with senior Inna Agababian to post an 8-7 win over Svenja Arens and Kateryna Nezhura at No. 1 doubles.

Junior Clare Fermin, freshman Rebecca Kwamn, senior Jessica Broadfoot and junior Heidi Kaloi also won earned victories at Nos. 3-6 singles, respectively, for the Anteaters (11-7, 6-1 in conference).

UOP fell to 5-11, 1-4.
