PLACENTIA — Sophomore Dillan Freiberg drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning in the Sailors’ Sunset League game Monday.

Freiberg, who went two for four with two runs batted in, singled in junior Cody Green from second base as Newport Harbor (6-7-1, 2-4 in league) snapped a six-game losing streak. The six runs were the most scored by the Sailors since beating Back Bay rival Corona del Mar, 7-1, on March 11.

“We needed a win and the young guys were able to step up with senior pitcher RJ D’Cruz out with a bruised left [non-throwing] shoulder,” said Newport Harbor Coach Evan Chalmers, whose team has beaten Esperanza twice by one run this season. “This is the first game RJ has missed in three yeas. The X-rays were negative and we hope to get him back this week.”

Junior Alex Rios had one hit and two RBIs. Freiberg (3-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory after sophomore Ryan Albert started. Patrick Brennan, a senior, recorded his first save of the season by striking out one in the seventh.
