Local to compete at boarding competition

Mike Morrissey of Laguna Beach is one of 49 athletes confirmed to compete at the inaugural Ultimate Boarder Competition beginning Sunday.

The weeklong, triathlon-type of competition includes snowboarding, surfing and skating at various California venues.

The event begins Sunday with the snowboarding competition at Squaw Valley, moves to “C” Street in Ventura on Monday for the surf competition that will take place Wednesday and ends at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for Saturday’s skateboard competition and awards presentation with a concert to follow.

The competition if open to both amateur and professional athletes who will contend for a first-place prize of $30,000.

The age range of the competitors runs from 13 (Sky Siljeg of Bothell, Wash.) and 49 (Tom “Wally” Inouye of Hood River, Ore.).
