HUNTINGTON BEACH — Medalist Chase Bear shot a three-under-par 32 to led the Sailors to their lowest team score this season in the Sunset League match Thursday at Meadowlark Golf Club.

Bear, a senior, had three birdies and no bogies. It was the lowest nine-hole score from a Sailors golfer in the past eight years.

Travis Ruffle (37), Michael Clark (38), Erickson Klein (40) and Tad Doolan (40) also scored for Newport Harbor (9-4, 4-1 in league).

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors picked up their first dual meet win of the season Thursday against visiting Sunset League rival Fountain Valley.

Winners for the Tars included Erica Pearson (800 meters) and Cassidy Gayner (300 hurdles) with a time of 47.8. Stephanie Hancock, who was second in the 100 meters, was first in the high jump with 5 1/4 . Pearson also won the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:09.4.

Newport senior Bucko Theriot won the 400 meters in 51.9 seconds.

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors won 10 of 11 events Wednesday to remain unbeaten in the Sunset League.

Senior Clinton Jorth won the 100-yard freestyle (48.77 seconds), the 200 IM (2 minutes, 1.97 seconds) and anchored both winning freestyle relays for Newport Harbor (4-0, 3-0 in league).

Junior David Linden won the 50 free (22.29) and 100 butterfly (54.11), and led off both winning free relays.

Senior Colin McKibbin won the 200 free (1:49.31) and the 500 free (4:54.94) for the Tars.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Sage Hill 78, Oxford 73

Senior Sarah Wesley and junior Kelly Carpenter led the Lightning in the Academy League meet Wednesday.

Wesley won the 100-yard freestyle (1 minute, 2.56 seconds) and and the 100 breaststroke (1:23.59). Carpenter won the 500 free (6:28.32).

NEWPORT BEACH — Sailors senior Mimi Bury won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.22 seconds in the Sunset League meet Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

Bury was also second in the 500 free for Newport Harbor (0-3-1, 0-3 in league).

Sophomore Katie Jackson won the 200 individual medley in 2:16.91.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Laguna Hills 18, Sage Hill 14

LAGUNA HILLS — Sophomore midfielder Hayden Furey had five goals and one assist in the Lightning’s nonleague game Thursday.

Sage is now 6-3-1.
