MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Pacific

STOCKTON — Junior opposite Jon Steller and freshman outside hitter Cory Yoder each finished with 16 kills in the Anteaters’ 30-25, 30-27, 30-22 victory in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday.

Freshman outside hitter Jordan DuFault had 12 kills and five block assists for UCI (15-13, 11-10 in MPSF).

Junior libero Brent Asuka and Steller led UCI with each eight digs each.

The Anteaters end the regular season tonight in a MPSF match at Stanford at 7 p.m.

Next week UCI will try to defend its MPSF championship when it competes in the MPSF Tournament.

TRACK AND FIELD

IRVINE — UC Irvine junior Samantha Costantini set meet-record time of 4 minutes, 29.78 seconds in the 1,500-meter women’s event at the Big West Challenge Cup at Anteater Stadium Friday.

Costantini also won the 800 in 2:13.54, as the UCI women finished third in the competition with 141 points. Long Beach State took first with 221 points and Cal State Fullerton placed second at 170.

Sophomore Alisha Misiata won the shot put at 50 feet, 1 3/4 inches. She placed fifth in the hammer throw at 148 feet.

In the men’s competition, UCI sophomore Tim Murphy won the 800 in 1:52.78 and sophomore Napoleon Greene placed first in the 400-meter hurdles at 52.55.

Senior Dayne Comrie finished second in the 400 meters with an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 46.91, which ranks fourth all-time at UCI.

The Anteaters finished second in the team scoring with 153 points. Long Beach State finished first with 231 points.

MEN’S GOLF

TEMPE, Ariz. — Sophomore John Chin leads the Anteaters after shooting an even-par-71, good for 18th place in the opening round of the Arizona State University/Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Course Friday.

UC Irvine is tied for eighth place with New Mexico and Pacific at 292 in the 16-team field. Arizona State’s two teams lead after shooting five-under rounds of 279.

UCI freshman Bryan Harris shot 72 and is in 28th place, junior Tim Cha is 33rd at 73, while senior Kenny Kim and junior Sean Shahi are tied for 57th at 76.

The tournament continues with 18 holes today and Sunday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 6, New Mexico 1

IRVINE — Anteaters senior Becky Bernhard won at No. 1 singles and teamed up with senior Inna Agababian for a No. 1 doubles victory in the nonconference match Friday at UCI.

Also winning in singles for UC Irvine (13-7) were freshmen Brooke Bartlett and Rebecca Kwan, and senior Jessica Broadfoot.
