UCI’s Misiata garners Big West Conference honors

UC Irvine sophomore Alisha Misiata was named Big West Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week following her record-breaking performance at the Stanford Invitational April 5.

Misiata broke her own school record in the shot put for the third time this season with a mark of 50 feet, 7 1/4 inches at Stanford. Misiata finished second in the top section to Hawaii’s Meghan Weaver, who recorded a toss of 51-7.

Misiata’s previous UCI record was 50-6, set March 22 in the Collegiate Classic at Anteater Stadium.

This is the second time that Misiata has won the conference’s weekly award as she earned the honor during her freshman season.
