NEWPORT BEACH — Andrew Yun and Andrew Kurzweil swept at No. 1 doubles as the Lightning won the key Academy League match Friday at the Balboa Bay Club Country Club.

Sage Hill and Whitney are now tied for first place with a week left in the regular season.

Troy Astorino took a pair of singles matches for Sage Hill (11-9, 5-1 in league), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division IV coaches’ poll. Whitney is ranked No. 1.

YORBA LINDA — Sophomores Steven Grant and James Chai led the Lightning with six-over-par 43 in Friday’s nonleague match at Black and Gold Golf Course.

Mac Mace (45), Cam Fujii (48), Jared Hoffman (50) and Eric Ringman (62) also scored for Sage (7-8).

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar won its first two matches to advance to the semifinals today at 10:45 a.m. CdM will play Valencia, the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division II.

The No. 3-ranked Sea Kings (19-5) knocked off Mira Costa, the No. 2-ranked team in Division I in a quarterfinal Friday, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 28-26. Gus Ellis and Westen Nielsen led with 12 kills, followed by Jeff Carlson with 11. Dillon Flynn had seven kills and four blocks, and Spencer Brown added 12 digs. Connor Bannan had 39 assists.

The Sea Kings defeated Buchanan of Clovis, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20, in the first round.

SANTA BARBARA — Newport Harbor, ranked No. 1 in CIF Division I, will play today in the semifinals after winning its first two matches Friday.

The Sailors will face Bullard of Fresno at 10:45 a.m. Mark Leibermann had 12 kills and one ace and Tucker Peleuses had 10 kills and one ace as the Sailors defeated Clovis West, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18, in a quarterfinal.

Newport Harbor defeated Santa Ynez in the first round, 25-12, 25-15, 25-13.

Laguna Beach def. Estancia

LAGUNA BEACH — Setter Barry Fryslie led with 13 assists and three digs in Orange Coast League play Friday.

Laguna Beach won, 25-10, 25-17, 25-12. Scott Essen had five kills, on 10 attempts and Ly Nguyen had four kills and three digs for Estancia (2-4 in league).

Calvary Chapel 8

COSTA MESA — Nick Pederson drove in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning at Orange Coast College Friday, lifting the Mustangs into sole possession of first place in the Orange Coast League.

Gabe Sanchez went four for four with two triples and four RBIs Mesa (12-9, 5-1 in league), which leads Calvary Chapel (11-11, 4-2) by one game in league.
