HITCHENS RESPONDS

Jason Hitchens, who is thinking to sign to become Corona del Mar High’s new football coach, said he has a teaching credential, contradicting the information the school’s administration has.

Paul Orris, CdM’s athletic director, said Hitchens’ teaching credential has lapsed because he has not renewed it and that has reduced the number of years he can have when transferring into the district.

“If somebody is [saying] that I have been teaching without a credential, that’s inaccurate,” Hitchens said. “I’ve held a credential in some capacity since I started in the public school system. There’s not one year in there that I didn’t have a credential.”

Hitchens will meet with CdM officials on Monday to try to resolve the issue, Orris said.
