Police checkpoint changed from Friday to May 1

There will be no sobriety checkpoint Friday as earlier announced at Harbor Boulevard and Gisler Avenue, Costa Mesa police said Wednesday.

Staffing problems unraveled the safety inspection, but police have already scheduled two more in the coming weeks, Sgt. Rob Sharpnack said.

Police will be conducting a DUI and drivers license checkpoint from 6 p.m. to midnight May 1. The checkpoint will be on northbound Placentia Avenue at 20th Street. Police have scheduled another one less than two weeks later, Sharpnack said.

The department is expected to roll out several checkpoints before July, Sharpnack said.
