Randy Guite has been a consistent performer at the plate for the Huntington Beach High baseball team the past six games.

But in Friday’s game against Trabuco Hills, he was the driving force that led the Oilers to their fourth Sea View League win of the year.

All the senior did against the visiting Mustangs was hit a pair of two-run home runs, add a triple, double and walk, to power Huntington to an 8-2 victory. Guite’s first home run gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead through one inning and his second, which came in the third inning, made it a 4-1 game.

“He’s been really consistent and that’s why we’ve been successful,” Huntington Coach Benji Medure said of Guite. “When he’s on, we roll.”

For good measure, senior Trevor Briggs hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to complete the game’s scoring.

Ocean View improved its Golden West League-leading record to 8-1 Friday by holding on for a 9-5 win at Segerstrom. Senior Sean Burleson took a perfect game and a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but lost it there on a lead-off infield grounder.

Edison picked up a pair of Sunset League wins in the past week, both at the expense of Newport Harbor.

Most recently, the Chargers racked up 21 hits and pounded the host Sailors, 12-4, Friday. Freshman Eric Snyder delivered a three-run home run.

On April 16, Edison defeated visiting Newport Harbor, 14-5. Junior Ryan Miller had a two-run home run and pair of doubles to lead the Chargers’ 18-hit attack. Freshman Henry Owens recorded the win.

Marina on Friday used an RBI groundout by senior Robby Herron to force extra innings with Los Alamitos, but the visiting Griffins still got the win on a two-RBI single by Kenny Uyetake in the top of the ninth to emerge with a 4-2 victory in another Sunset League contest.

SOFTBALL

Senior Brenna Klein threw a no-hitter and struck out seven as Ocean View won its eighth-straight game by blanking visiting Westminster, 10-0, in a Golden West League game Friday.

Edison used six hits to produce all six of its runs in the third inning of an eventual 8-5 Sunset League victory over visiting Esperanza. Starter Stephanie Engle got the win and freshman Ally Hecht recorded the save.

Marina used a four-run first inning to propel itself to a 6-1 win over visiting Fountain Valley. Taysia Kaufman remained perfect at 8-0 and Jessica Garcia doubled for the Vikings who won their first Sunset League game of the year after an 0-3 start.

Huntington Beach suffered a 4-3 loss to host Woodbridge in a Sea View League game that took nine innings to decide at Bill Barber Park in Irvine. The Oilers, who led 3-0 through four innings, got a triple from junior Charlene Courtney.

LACROSSE

Huntington Beach edged Woodbridge, 8-7, in Sea View League action at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex on April 17. Shayne Thomas scored three goals and had two assists, Nick Refice scored twice with two assists, Kyle Peterson scored once and had three assists and Pat Soriano and Liam Powers each scored once for the Oilers.
