CERRITOS — Sage Hill extended its winning streak to eight Thursday, defeating Whitney, 25-4, 25-20, 25-20, in an Academy League match.

The Lightning (17-10, 8-0 in league), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division V coaches’ poll, have swept all of their Academy League opponents this year, and remain in first place in league.

Joey Booth led Sage Hill with 13 kills and eight digs, while Bayle Smith added nine kills, and eight aces.

Setter Michael Bear had 36 assists, six digs, and one ace. Libero Mattias Russo-Larson had 11 digs, and two aces.

CORONA DEL MAR — Dylan Davis had seven kills and Dillon Flinn added six to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 victory that clinched their sixth straight Pacific Coast League title Thursday.

Jeff Carlson (five aces, four kills), Andy Morrow (three kills) and Connor Bannan (21 assists) also contributed to the win for CdM (22-6, 7-0 in league), ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division II.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Chris Griffin went two for four with two doubles and two RBIs for the Lightning in their Academy League game Thursday.

Dusty Orrantia was two for three for Sage Hill (12-4, 10-1 in league). Lightning pitcher Travis Duncan (2-2) allowed no earned runs, scattered four hits, struck out three and walked four in his complete-game victory.

LONG BEACH — Steve Stoneman and Travis Russell both shot even-par 36 to share medalist honors and help the Sailors move to first place in the Sunset League Thursday at El Dorado Park Golf Course.

Chase Behr (39), Ericson Klein (39) and Mychael Clark (41) also contributed to the win for Harbor 13-6, 7-2 in league), which would win the league title with a victory over Marina Tuesday.

COSTA MESA — Andrew Ayala shot one-under-par 34 to become the medalist Thursday as Estancia clinched the Orange Coast League title at Costa Mesa Country Club.

Ryan Knapp shot (35), Storm Hagen (42), Ryan Burns (42), Jon Person (43) also contributed. Kyle Smith shot 42 to lead the Mustangs (3-9 in league).

The Eagles (15-5, 11-1 in league) will play in the Orange Coast League finals Monday at noon at Costa Mesa Country Club.

COSTA MESA — Connor Corrigan and Tanner Trauthen tied for medalist as both boys shot an even-par 35 Thursday on the Mesa Linda Course at Costa Mesa Country Club.

Josh Stearns shot 36, Jeff Jones shot 37, and Nick Freeman shot 38 for the Sea Kings, who will advance to the CIF Team Divisional Championship in Lakewood May 5.

The Sea Kings (14-7, 8-2 in league) will also compete individually in the Pacific Coast League Tournament Monday at El Prado Golf Course at 10 a.m. on the Butterfield course.

Preliminaries

MISSION VIEJO — Megan Kim qualified to compete in three events for the Lightning at the Academy League finals, May 1 at Saddleback College.

Cait Williamson, Jackie Dion, Marian Huang, and Adrian Wong all qualified to compete in two events.

Kim qualified first in the 100 meters and second in the 200 at league preliminaries Thursday, and qualified fifth in the long jump.

Williamson qualified first in the 800 and 1,600.

Dion qualified first in the high jump and second in the 400.

Huang was sixth in the shot put and long jump, and Wong qualified eighth in the same events.

Courtney Conlogue (seventh), and Molly Vorweck (eighth) also qualified in the 400.

Megan Culberson qualified eighth in the 1,600 and Alexa Lloyd qualified seventh in the shot put.

The top eight qualifiers advanced to the finals.

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Tatiana Williams won the high jump, long jump and triple jump Thursday to help the host Mustangs finish their second straight Orange Coast League season unbeaten in dual meets.

Teagan LeBare swept the 100 meters and the 200 and was also on both winning relays for Mesa (3-0 in league), which will aim for its fourth straight league crown beginning with league preliminaries Monday at Orange Coast College.

Seu Ieremia won the discus throw with a mark of 108 feet, 4 3/4 inches, a personal best by more than three feet.

NEWPORT BEACH — Led by Cassidy Gayner, Newport Harbor swept the 400 meters Thursday as it defeated Marina. Gayner also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.7 seconds.

Sophia Ditty took first place in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:27.4.

The Sailors (2-2-1 in the Sunset League) will compete in league preliminaries Tuesday at Huntington Beach. League finals are May 12.

Preliminaries

MISSION VIEJO — Kevin Shaefer, Lion Wintemute, Connor Rose, Justin Stroud, and Cody Gates of Sage Hill all qualified for the Academy League finals to be held May 1at Saddleback College during league preliminaries Thursday.

The top eight finishers at league preliminaries advanced.

Shaefer qualified second in the 100 and 200 meters. Wintemute finished third in the 200 meters and second in the 400 meters.

Rose was second in the 800 meters and first in the 1,600 meters. Sean McElroy qualified with a third place finish in the 1,600 meters. Stroud took second in the 110 high hurdles and first in the 300 hurdles, and fifth in the long jump. Andy Multari made the cut of 5-4 in the high jump.

COSTA MESA – Junior Antwon Byrd swept the 100 meters and the 200 and anchored the winning 400 relay for the host Mustangs Thursday.

Junior Thomas Guzowski won the discus with a mark of 120 feet, 8 inches, a personal best by five feet, while his brother Steve Guzowski, a senior, edged him by a half-inch to win the shot put.

Junior Duke Yashuda (300 intermediate hurdles in 45.5 seconds) and junior Myles Wright (37-8 in the triple jump) also won events for the Mustangs, 1-2 in league dual meets.

Junior Joel Betonte won both the long jump and triple jump for Newport Harbor (1-3-1 in league). The Sailors now prepare for Sunset League preliminaries on Tuesday at Huntington Beach High. The league finals are on May 2.

IRVINE — Goalies Andrew Noto and Mats Abbott played solid defense as the Sea Kings finished the regular season Wednesday, claiming the Pacific Coast League championship by going 4-0 in league play.

CdM (15-3), ranked No. 6 in the state by laxpower.com, will prepare for the postseason, scheduled to start next week.
