OJAI — Corona del Mar High senior Fabian Matthews won his first two CIF singles division rounds Thursday at the 108th annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament.

Matthews, the top seed, got by Francesco D’Arcangelo of Cathedral Catholic in the first round, 6-4, 6-2. He then topped Connor Karen of Adolfo Camarillo, 6-2, 6-2. Estancia senior Bradley Fisher lost in the first round of the division, 6-4, 6-2, to Christopher Kenney of Harvard-Westlake.

In the CIF doubles division, CdM junior Chris Damion and freshman Shane Korber won their first-round match against Vinh Ly and Greg Punsalan of Adolfo Camarillo, 7-6, 6-3. Damion and Korber then lost to Romel Orpiano and Andrew Sarawasi of Carson, 6-2, 6-3.

Also competing in the CIF doubles division, Estancia juniors Ely Zaidler and Danny O’Neil fell to Nikolai Karnopp and Kyle Van Buskirk of La Jolla, 6-4, 6-3.

CdM sophomore Ryan Peyton advanced to the Round of 16 in the boys’ 16 singles division. Peyton beat Jimmy Vaughan of Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-2, before upsetting No. 9-seeded Brett Allchorn of Pacific Palisades, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. Estancia sophomore Kevin Thomas lost in the first round of the boys’ 16 singles draw.

Newport Beach resident Dante Saleh also fell in the boys’ 14 singles draw, while Costa Mesa resident Laurel Hinson lost in girls’ 14 singles.

Orange Coast College was also perfect on its first day in the women’s community college events.

Freshman Brittnie Furuvald and Brittany Bass won in the singles Round of 64.

In doubles, Bass and Furuvald, as well as Evelyn Wallace and Kalin Eshelman, won.

In community college men’s singles action, OCC’s Giovanni Villicana advanced to the Round of 32. OCC’s Landon Draper lost in the first round of singles to Mitchell Grajeda of Mt. San Jacinto, 6-4, 6-2.

Villicana and partner Pat Lam also advanced to the Round of 32 in doubles.

The Pirates’ Kevin Kordestani and Andy Ong also advanced to the Round of 32.
