MAILBAG:
Regarding your recent front-page article (“Senior care under dispute,” April 15 ), Wendy Leece is right on.
I am usually not aligned with her on her politics, but in this case she is really bringing to light a matter that has disgusted many of us who used to enjoy the Costa Mesa Senior Center facilities.
For a long time now, I believe ever since that private outfit took over operating it, the center has gone downhill.
Many of us have just quit coming. An example is our duplicate bridge group.
We used to have a plethora of tables, and I understand that it’s now down to just one or two because of the way the current management keeps shoving us around.
All the items of Wendy’s concern are absolutely legitimate.
As the City Council’s liaison to the center, why shouldn’t she be concerned about seniors’ complaints: unfair or fouled-up hall use and day room schedules, ceiling tiles, etc.?
Thanks, Wendy, for sticking up for us.
Maybe now we “squeaky wheels” will get some response.

How to report noise from JWA takeoffs
Every one of your readers should know the number to call to complain about noise from John Wayne Airport operations.
A private jet that took off last Saturday at 3:06 p.m. sounded like an unmuffled motorcycle racing past my house, and I live one mile from the bay.
I called the number, as did some other residents, and the pilot will be disciplined.
The number is (949) 252-5185.

So what problems are suitable for stories?
If Costa Mesa City Councilwoman Linda Dixon had a son who had a disease that was the object of sympathy such as an inoperable tumor, it would be socially acceptable and not newsworthy.
However, if she had a son with the disease involving alcohol, that is newsworthy? (“Personal matters can affect public,” April 20).
