Fountain Valley residents can protest proposed city water rate hikes

The Fountain Valley City Council will host a protest hearing to consider proposed hikes to city water rates May 20.

The average monthly bill would rise from $25.62 to $29.83 according to a water rate analysis report commissioned by the city.

The report suggests rate increases would combat rising costs in system maintenance, water, and a projected inflation rate of 4% that would put the utility’s budget in the red by the 2010/2011 fiscal year.

Written protests to the increases are due to the City Clerk, 10200 Slater Ave., Fountain Valley, by the end of the May 20 meeting. Protests should include the affected address and the complaint.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
