McGaughey Orange Coast League champ

COSTA MESA — Laguna Beach High senior Brett McGaughey won the Orange Coast League individual title in boys’ golf, edging Estancia junior Ryan Knapp by one stroke Tuesday at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Los Lagos Course.

McGaughey shot a two-day total of three-over-par 145. He tied for the lead with Knapp after the first day with a one-under 69 at the Mesa Linda Course. But McGaughey’s four-over 76 proved to be the winning touch at Los Lagos Tuesday.

He advances to the CIF Southern Section individuals May 12 at SeaCliff Country Club. Laguna Beach’s Duane Hewlett finished third with a 149 (72-77) to also advance.
