COSTA MESA — The top-seeded Pirates won again Tuesday to advance to the final of the Southern California Dual Team Tennis Championships, where they will face either Cuesta or Grossmont.

OCC’s top four singles players each notched victories. Brittany Bass, Brittnie Furuvald, and Evelyn Wallace all had straight-set wins. Kalin Eshelman won in three sets against Sarena Dickerson of Bakersfield.

The Pirates will play in the final at home Tuesday at 2 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Freshman third baseman Drew Hillman went four for five with two runs and two RBIs for the Pirates in their Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.

OCC (29-12-1, 13-6 in conference) also received contributions with two hits apiece from sophomores Cory Olson (two runs scored), Kyle Muhlsteff (two RBIs) and Mike Ferraro (one RBI) and freshman Ryan Dunn (one run).

Sophomore Brandon Dixon allowed two unearned runs over eight innings, improving his record to 9-4. He allowed five hits — all singles — with one walk and two strikeouts.

With the win, OCC remains in a second-place tie with Irvine Valley with two games left in the regular season. OCC and IVC will play in Irvine on Thursday before the same two teams play at OCC on Friday. Both games begin at 2 p.m.

AZUSA — Junior Jason Valenzuela won the men’s 5,000 meters and Lions sophomore Rebecca Sopp won the women’s 5,000 to highlight Vanguard University performers at the Golden State Athletic Conference championships completed Sunday at Azusa Pacific University.

Valenzuela finished in 15 minutes, 27.09 seconds and was also third in the 10,000 in 32:12.54.

Sopp, who finished the 5,000 in 18:20.15, was also second in the 10,000 in 37:10.82.

Sophomore Aze Perkins was second in the men’s 100 (18.81 seconds) and the men’s triple jump (43-9 1/4 ), as well as fourth in the 110 high hurdles (14.79) and eighth in the long jump (21-1 1/4 ). Perkins’ mark of 14.40 in the hurdles preliminaries is a school record, while his 100 preliminary time of 10.69 ranks second in Vanguard annals.

Sophomore Kelsie Davis was second in the high jump (5-3 3/4 ) for the Lions, and also finished sixth in the triple jump with a personal best of 34-2 1/4 ).

Sophomore Mike Hartanov was third in the men’s 800 in 1:57.84 and seventh in the 1,500 in 4:04.11.

Valenzuela, Sopp, Davis, Perkins and Hartanov were named all-conference on the basis of their finishes.

Stewart Ramsey, a senior, was fourth in the men’s pole vault, clearing a school-record 14 feet, 7 1/4 inches.

Sophomore Heidi Morehouse was fourth in the women’s pole vault (10-2).

Freshman Allie Armando was fifth in the women’s 100 in 12.67, a personal best, sixth in the 200 in 26.40, another personal best, and ninth in the long jump (16-11 1/2 ), tying a personal record.

Freshman Christian De Glymes was sixth in the men’s 5,000 in 16:14.12.

Freshman Kelsey Thorn was seventh in the women’s high jump (4-11 3/4 ) and junior Cassie Plett was ninth in the women’s heptathlon (2,935 points).
