Registrar seeks poll workers for June 3 primary

The Orange County Registrar of Voters is urgently looking for about a hundred people to work the polls in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley for the June 3 statewide primary election.

Positions are available as either clerks or inspectors. Inspectors are in charge of polling places, and clerks help sign in voters and explain the voting process. All new workers are required to go through a three-hour training session during May.

Poll workers put in 16 hours on election day, opening the polling place at 6 a.m., closing at 8 p.m. and cleaning up afterward. Inspectors are paid $130 and clerks are paid $95 for the shift.

“We have a more difficult time recruiting for June elections because of vacations, graduations and stuff,” said Brett Rowley, a spokesman for the registrar.

Bilingual workers who speak English and either Chinese, Korean, Spanish or Vietnamese are especially in demand.
