LAGUNA BEACH — Estancia High senior Bradley Fisher won his second straight league title Wednesday at Laguna Beach High.

Fisher, the top seed in singles, beat Laguna Beach freshman Jake Michaels, 6-1, 6-1, in the finals. Previously, Fisher defeated Alex Grosek of Calvary Chapel in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-4.

Michaels defeated Estancia junior Ely Zaidler in the semifinals, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the third-place match, Zaidler defeated Grosek, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles, the Estancia pairing of seniors Chris Koreerat and Nick Oliver lost in the semifinals to Ben Biscarrat and Noah Michelon of Laguna Beach, 6-1, 6-3. Koreerat and Oliver finished fourth, after Laguna’s Mikey Rubel and Sean Ochwat topped them in the third-place match, 6-1, 6-4.

Fisher and Zaidler, as well as the doubles team of Koreerat and Oliver, earn first-team All-Orange Coast League status. Fisher also advances to the CIF Individual sectional, scheduled for May 16 at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

IRVINE — Corona del Mar High senior Fabian Matthews and junior Chris Damion each advanced to the singles semifinals on Wednesday at Beckman High.

Matthews, the top seed, defeated Austin Shiras of Laguna Hills, 8-0, in the first round, then got by Ryan Cheung of University, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. He’ll face Emmitt Shiras of Laguna Hills in the semifinals today at 2:15 p.m.

Damion topped Ryan Griswold of Beckman before getting past Nhan Do of Irvine, 6-0, 6-0. He will face No. 2-seeded Jason Lin of University in the other semifinal.

CdM freshman Joel Ishii fell in the first round of James Gia of Irvine, 8-2.

In doubles, No. 2-seeded Ryan Peyton and Shane Korber of CdM both advanced to the semifinals, as did No. 4-seeded teammates Gabino Felgueroso and Bryan Buchert.

Peyton and Korber defeated a Beckman team, 8-2, in the first round before getting by a University team in the quarterfinals. Felgueroso and Buchert, meanwhile, got by a Beckman team, 8-1, before defeating an Irvine team, 7-5, 6-2.

The Sea Kings pairings of Brent Pham and Matt Fisher, as well as Hayden Tremper and Pierce Stemler, both lost in the first round. Pham and Fisher fell to a University team, 8-3, while Tremper and Stemler lost to an Irvine team, 8-2.

Felgueroso and Buchert will face the top-seeded team of Matt Siow and Michael Tang today in the semifinals, while Korber and Peyton face the No.3-seeded Uni pairing of John Huang and Kevin Masaki.

Sunset League tournament

SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor High senior John Hutchinson, the No. 3 seed, and unseeded freshman Jason Cernius won twice in singles Wednesday to advance to today’s semifinals at Seal Beach Tennis Center.

They will play in separate semifinal matches today at 2 p.m.

Daron Arnold and Josh Tuz, the No. 2-seeded doubles team, also advanced to today’s semifinals after two victories.

Eric Heimstaedt lost in the quarterfinals in singles and was eliminated.

The doubles team of McKenna Duley and Taylor Friend, and Ryan McKennon and Michael Gracia were eliminated after first-round losses.

LOS ALAMITOS — Junior Alex Rios hit a one-run double for the Sailors in a Sunset League game Wednesday.

Senior RJ D’Cruz went one for three with an RBI for Newport Harbor (7-12-1, 3-9 in league).

The Sailors play host to Los Alamitos Friday at 3:15 p.m.

COSTA MESA — The Mustangs scored the game’s first two runs before Calvary Chapel pulled away in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday at TeWinkle Park.

Costa Mesa fell to 10-10, 4-3 in league, while Calvary Chapel is 5-2 in league. Both records include three forfeit wins over Laguna Beach, which is not fielding a program.

The Mustangs play host to cross-town rival Estancia (13-6, 6-1 in league) on Friday at 3:15 p.m. Estancia, the defending league champion, can clinch both a CIF Southern Section Division IV playoff spot and at least a share of the Orange Coast League title with a victory.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 16, El Toro 7

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior midfielder Alex Hoover scored six goals for the Sea Kings in a regular-season finale Wednesday.

Corona del Mar finished 10-7, 5-2 in the Pacific Coast League game, good for second place behind Beckman.

Junior midfielder Adriane Knezevic added four goals. Sophomore goalie Zoe Salaam made 14 saves.

BOYS’ GOLF

Sunset League

CHINO HILLS — Newport Harbor sophomore Travis Russell shot a one-over-par 73 during the first day of the Sunset League tournament at Los Serranos Golf Course Wednesday.

Russell advanced to today’s final round, which starts at 1 p.m. Chase Behr shot a 75 and Mychael Clark a 77, keeping them alive for today’s action.

The top six will advance to the CIF Southern Section individual tournament at SeaCliff Country Club on May 12.

Pacific Coast League

preliminaries

CORONA DEL MAR — Corona del Mar High senior Yutaro Yamashita qualified first in the 200-yard freestyle for Friday’s final in preliminaries held Wednesday at CdM.

Yamashita out-touched Chris Wong of University, finishing in 1 minute, 45.48 seconds. Yamashita also qualified third in the 500 free in 4:53.13.

Sea Kings freshman John Kim swam 1:00.48 in the 100 breaststroke, also qualifying first, and Kim qualified second in the 200 IM in 1:58.94.

The Pacific Coast League finals are scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. at CdM.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

St. Margaret’s 9, Corona del Mar 5

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — With a couple of key players hurt, the Sea Kings’ season ended in the semifinals of the Orange County Championship tournament Wednesday night.

Corona del Mar, the No. 2 seed, finished 16-4. The Sea Kings, who won the Pacific Coast League title, couldn’t beat the Tartans for the second time this season.

No. 3 St. Margaret’s (16-2) will play defending champion No. 1 Foothill (16-2) for the title at Trabuco Hills Friday.
