Sailors, Sea Kings set for battle at the Bren

The Newport Harbor Sailors, undefeated Sunset League champions, haven’t lost a match since March 16 in the Orange County Championships.

They haven’t forgotten the team that dealt that blow: Back Bay rival and Pacific Coast League champion Corona del Mar High.

Tonight both teams will reunite at UC Irvine’s Bren Center at 8 p.m., following the Woodbridge-Santa Margarita match.

The Sailors (26-3), led by seniors Max Volz, Mark Leibermann, Kyle Caldwell, Tucker Peleuses, and Andrew Kaban, are ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll and have been the favorite for most of the season.

The Sea Kings (23-6), led by seniors Gus Ellis, Spencer Brown and Jeff Carlson, and juniors Dylan Davis, Connor Bannan, and Weston Nielsen, are ranked third in Division II next to Laguna Beach.
