Sheer AIDS fundraising

While feeling good is a common byproduct of doing something good, it isn’t very often that after some charitable deeds one gets to walk away looking good as well.

But that is exactly what about 200 visitors to Paul Mitchell Beauty School got Sunday.

The school hosted a special charity event where various hair stylists from Orange County turned out to cut hair for OC AIDS Walk. Hair cuts were $20, facials were $15 and all the money was donated to the foundation, which will have its culminating event Saturday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Fifteen stylists from salons such as Cool Cuts for Kids, Ferial, Templeton and Pancho Metric’s came to give patrons a chance for a professional styling, which can cost about $40 or $50 regularly, but instead was offered at a discounted price. The stylists were all volunteers either from the salons or students at the Paul Mitchell school.

“It’s a noble cause,” said Pancho Metric’s owner Norma Romandia. “[Patrons] have regular hair dressers but they like to donate.”

Romandia has participated in the event both years it has been put on after her daughter, who works for the foundation, asked her to participate.

The event hoped to raise about $3000, equal to last year’s amount, to put toward the foundation’s grand total, representatives said. In its entirety, OC Aids Walk hopes to raise $750,000. Thus far $462,000 had been raised but the organization hopes to top its goal at the walk Saturday, said OC AIDS Walk spokesman Doug Vogel.
