NEWPORT BEACH — Sailors senior RJ D’Cruz delivered a game-winning run-scoring double to end the Sunset League game in the eighth inning Tuesday.

Junior Cody Green began the eighth with a single and advanced to second after a groundout. D’Cruz then came up with his only hit of the game to score Green

D’Cruz also picked up the pitching win, relieving senior Patrick Brennan, who had gone seven innings.

The Sailors (8-11-1, 4-10 in league) sent the game into extra innings after catching the Vikings in the seventh inning. Junior Alex Rios’ double scored sophomore Blake Davey, who doubled to reach.

Davey finished two for three with an RBI.

NEWPORT COAST — Junior Christopher Griffin went three for four with two RBIs for the Lightning in their Academy League game Tuesday.

The Lightning (14-5, 12-2 in league), which clinched their first league title Friday, had their 12-game winning streak snapped.

Division IV preliminaries

LONG BEACH — The Sage Hill School quartet of Andrew Dorne, Ryan Barth, Jake Blitzer and Beau Caillouette qualified fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay advancing to the championship finals, after finishing in 3 minutes, 24.66 seconds at Belmont Plaza Tuesday.

The Lightning had several others who advanced to Thursday’s consolation finals.

Dorne qualified ninth in the 500 free in a personal-record time of 4:58.56. He also qualified 15th in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.32.

Blitzer qualified 12th in the 100 butterfly (56.72). Danny Harold qualified 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.04) for Sage Hill.

The Lightning’s Steven Krieger advanced to the consolation finals after beating teammate Nick Wan in a swim-off for the 16th spot in the 100 backstroke. Krieger beat Wan by six one-hundredths of a second in the swim-off.

Krieger and Wan, along with Barth and Blitzer qualified ninth in the 200 free relay (1:34.83). Wan, Harold, Dorne and Caillouette qualified 10th in the 200 medley relay (1:46.54).

On the girls’ side, Dylan Conroy, Jordan Smith-Newman, Cameron Cline and Sarah Wesley qualified 13th in the 400 free relay (4:02.30) for Sage Hill.

Central Divisional

LAKEWOOD — Mychael Clark shot three-over-par 75 to lead Newport Harbor High to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at Lakewood Golf Course.

The top two teams advanced to Thursday’s CIF Southern Section Finals. Cerritos won Tuesday with a team score of 374. Los Alamitos came in second at 376. Edison was third at 377 and Newport Harbor was behind with 385.

Travis Russell (76), Ericson Klein (77), Steve Stoneman 78 and Chase Behr (79) also scored for Newport Harbor.
