Local athletes choose local universities

Newport Harbor High School:

The two voted “most athletic guy and girl” of Newport Harbor, Kyle Caldwell and Cassidy Gayner, are CIF finalists in two different sports, but choose to stay close to home at UCLA and Chapman University, respectively. Kyle is the grandchild of legendary George Yardley and Cassidy is the daughter of Scott Gayner (Daily Pilot Hall of Fame from Estancia) who played football for Chapman in 1980 and was taught by Jim Doti.

Theme: We have the best college schools (and ranked tops) in our back yard, UCLA and Chapman U, why go Ivy League in the East?

Newport Harbor has a photo of both Kyle and Cassidy for the yearbook for a shot for the Daily Pilot, and their accolades are abundant and above the frey. Cassidy will be in the CIF Finals in Track at Mount SAC this weekend and Kyle is in the upcoming CIF Volleyball tourney (and post basketball).
