Orange Coast paired with Cypress in Super Regional
The Orange Coast College baseball team will play Cypress in its first game of the four-team, double-elimination Super Regional, beginning Friday at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
The Pirates (32-13-1) swept Long Beach, 9-4 and 9-7, in the best-of-three first-round Southern California Regional completed Saturday at OCC.
Cypress (29-17) rallied to eliminate College of the Canyons in its best-of-three, first-round series, winning 9-3 and 11-9 Saturday after losing Friday.
The other two teams in the regional are host Cuesta (32-13-1) and Riverside (29-17).
The Pirates, playing for their first state title since 1980, would advance to the four-team state championship tournament by winning the Super Regional.
