Janitors to resume negotiations

Orange County janitors represented by the Service Employees International Union have announced that they will resume negotiations with the local contractors that employ them Wednesday, following today’s announcement that Los Angeles County janitors had already reached a tentative agreement ensuring a $1,000 annual raise.

While both counties’ janitors will be governed by the same master contract, these terms will not be adopted until Orange County janitors agree to them, organizers said.

Janitors will also be presenting an “emergency briefing” to the Irvine City Council at 6:15 p.m. in the Irvine City Council Chambers, though a spokeswoman for the union was unavailable to comment on the nature of the presentation.
