Newport Beach police are giving anyone interested in joining the force a chance to learn what it takes at an open house orientation tonight.

People interested in becoming a police officer or officers transferring from other police departments are invited to the station from 6:30 to 8:30 to get tips on how to prepare for the written examination and oral interviews as well as what to expect in the physical abilities test. Police officers and special investigators will give a department overview, a station tour, a review of the testing process as well as what the background qualifications are to be an officer in Newport Beach.

People can learn about starting salaries and benefits as well as work schedules and retirement packages.
