Association rule out, local volleyball club in

A new Laguna Beach volleyball program will open in September for players ages 10 to 18, under the United States Volleyball Assn.

The program is 900 Square Feet Volleyball Club, led by Laguna Beach High volleyball Coach Lance Stewart, and will operate year-round for off-season players.

Unlike other volleyball clubs, Stewart’s program will accommodate the girls’ and boys’ school team schedules, to allow them proper recovery time before they begin off-season training.

Stewart and his staff will focus on improving skills on the court, and will incorporate weight training and ply metrics to build strength and speed.

Practices will be held at Laguna Beach High and Thurston Middle School.

Stewart said he’s wanted to start a club like this for a long time.

“Now that the [CIF] Association Rule has been eliminated, I can finally do it,” he said.
