Estancia’s Hartwell MVP of Orange Coast League
Estancia High sophomore Amy Hartwell was named Orange Coast League Most Valuable Player after helping the Eagles’ softball team to its second straight league title.
Estancia seniors Abby Koff, Taylor West and Haylee Whitney were all named to the first team, as were Costa Mesa High seniors Emily Pulaski, Brieanna Ramirez and freshman Sami Feinstein.
Hartwell, a third baseman, batted a team- and league-best .623 for Estancia (15-8), and led the team with 41 runs, 47 hits, 10 doubles and eight stolen bases. She was 7-6 with a 4.73 earned-run average as a pitcher.
Koff, headed to Harvard, primarily played first base and batted .613 with 27 RBIs, six doubles and seven triples. She was 4-1 with a team-best 2.54 ERA as a pitcher.
West, a center fielder who plans to walk on at Cal State Fullerton, followed up her league MVP season of a year ago by breaking her own team record with 15 home runs. She hit 26 dingers in four seasons.
She batted .557 as a senior, with a team-high 50 RBIs and nine triples.
Whitney, Estancia’s catcher who plans to continue her career at Santa Ana College, batted .394.
For Costa Mesa (11-11), which finished third in league, Waldorf College-bound Pulaski batted a team-best .569 with 22 runs scored and nine RBIs. She also had a team-high 14 stolen bases. The two-time first-team all-league pick went 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA as a pitcher.
Ramirez, who played third base, catcher and pitcher, earned her second straight first-team honor. She batted .382 with a 15 RBIs.
Feinstein, a second baseman, batted .348. She had seven RBIs despite playing in just 10 games.
Earning second-team All-Orange Coast League honors were Estancia junior Courtney Ulrich, sophomores Nicole Marlborough and Jill Beck, as well as Mesa junior Brook Urmson and Mustangs freshmen Alex Krohnfeldt and Deanna Byers.
