This is in response to the Daily Pilot’s editorial (“Parents best to teach sex ed,” May 17) which addresses Planned Parenthood’s objection to the district’s sex education curriculum, (“District gets ‘F’ in sex ed,” May 14).

“Parents best to teach sex ed,” now that’s a good heading. Too bad it doesn’t hold up in the body of the editorial. It should have read “Parents best to teach abstinence” because that is what the Daily Pilot proposes: “Parents ought to promote abstinence if they choose. Not government bureaucrats.”

But let’s get to the crux of the situation. Planned Parenthood, which has advocated comprehensive sex education in public schools since the ’60s, is the nation’s leading provider of surgical abortions. They also sell contraceptive supplies.

Condoms sometimes fail, even with consistent use and careful application, and they do not provide protection from some STDs. Teens are notoriously unreliable with regard to their use, frequently resulting in pregnancy. Get the connection? Planned Parenthood also sells abortion.

Have all those decades of Comprehensive Sex Education been effective in curbing teen sexual activity, pregnancy, abortion or STDs. No! Yet Planned Parenthood’s answer is more graphic sex ed.

Planned Parenthood has a vested interest in aggressively promoting teen sexual activity and uninhibited teen sexual freedom. Don’t take my word for it; check out their website for teens, teenwire.com.

In 2006-07 Planned Parenthood’s income was $1 billion, with $114.8 million in profit.

One-third of its annual budget is represented by $336.7 million in U.S. government grants and contracts. Strangely enough the organization enjoys nonprofit status. There is something wrong with this picture.

If that is not enough, consider this: Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, was devoted to eugenics. Yet she is still revered by the organization. Is there a connection between Sanger’s commitment to eugenics and the fact that today four out of every five Planned Parenthood centers are located in minority neighborhoods, and about one-third of its abortions are performed on blacks who constitute just 13% of the population?

Wake up, people. Planned Parenthood is not a health-care organization. Never in any of its literature or goals is the word “patient” ever mentioned. Nor is it really nonprofit. It should be stripped of its nonprofit standing and of all U.S. government funding.

Newport-Mesa Unified School District parents, be happy the district gets an “F” from Planned Parenthood.
