Dodgers 4, Cardinals 3

First-place was on the line in the Majors Division race and the Dodgers scored two late runs to emerge with the key victory.

Ryan Fishel scored in the second inning to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead but the Cardinals came right back to tie the score, when a collision at home plate between Dodgers catcher Dylan McCarthy and the Cardinals’ Andrew Bogard resulted in an acrobatic flip by Bogard over McCarthy that led to the tying run.

McCarthy was injured on the play and left the game.

The Dodgers regained the lead 2-1 but the Cardinals scored twice in the fifth to take the lead, the go-ahead run scored when Brad Dominick came home on a passed ball to give the Cardinals their first lead at 3-2.

But the Dodgers weren’t through. Hits by Andrew Geiger and Grant Schlindwein put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.

With Garrett Kelly at-bat, Geiger stole home and Schlindwein scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Yankees 18, Diamondbacks 1

Sean O’Toole hit a first-inning home run to give the Diamondbacks an early lead but it was all Yankees the remainder of the game.

The Yankees responded to O’Toole’s homer with an eight-run explosion in the second inning behind the hitting of Calab Bush, Kyle Crossen, Blake Hollingsworth, Peter Goode, Justin Oshiro, Jason Hartert, Josh Adams, Frank Hoshijima and an inside-the-park grand slam by Michael Elliot. Bush drove in a run in the fourth inning and Hollingsworth and Hartert each had two RBI in the sixth. Hollingsworth also threw a complete game and needed just 72 pitches to earn the win.
