A 61-year-old Irvine man riding a motorcycle died Sunday morning after being struck head-on by a motorist who veered into oncoming traffic on Coast Highway near Montage Resort Drive, Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jason Kravetz said.

Bruce Gold died at Mission Hospital following the 9:55 a.m. incident.

The driver of the other vehicle, Warren George Kramer, 82, is an Emerald Bay resident. Kramer was traveling northbound in the left lane when he veered onto oncoming traffic for an unknown reason, Kravetz said. His Mercedes first struck a vehicle stopped in the left turn lane waiting for a green light at Montage Resort Drive. The driver of that vehicle, a 45-year-old Laguna Beach woman, was not injured.

Kramer’s vehicle then continued across the southbound lanes and struck Gold’s motorcycle, which had been traveling southbound.

“We are not suspecting DUI at this time, but the case is under investigation,” Kravetz said. “We are suspecting a medical emergency with the driver.”

Kramer and Gold were both taken to the hospital, and Gold died later that night.
