Police seek bank robber, urge public to call in tips

Police are looking for a robber who struck a Wells Fargo Bank in Newport Beach on Saturday.

The man, described as between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8, was wearing a black jacket, gray T-shirt, gray gloves, blue jeans and black shoes when he walked into the 21103 Newport Coast Drive branch with a handgun, police said.

Police said he weighs between 150 and 180 pounds and was wearing a black baseball cap with a “DH” on it with a football helmet similar to the Dana Hills High School football logo. To see a surveillance photo visit www.dailypilot.com.

The money was placed in a black messenger-style bag slung over his shoulder, authorities said. No one saw how he left the area, Sgt. Evan Sailor said.

Authorities would not say how much money was stolen.
