WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The UC Irvine men’s golf team is in 27th place after the first round of the NCAA Division I Championship on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

UCI shot a 32-over total of 320 Wednesday. USC and UCLA are tied for the lead at nine-over 297 while Oklahoma State shot 298 in the 30-team field.

UCLA’s Kevin Chappell is the individual leader with a three-under 69 in the opening round.

UCI junior Tim Cha is 53rd at 77 while Kenny Kim and Sean Shahi are tied for 100th place at 80. John Chin is 126th after an 83 and Max Greil is 145th at 85.

The Anteaters, joined by Oregon and Augusta State, resume play today.
