UPDATE: Driver arrested after early morning crash

Five men speeding down Harbor Boulevard flipped their car on its roof early this morning in an accident that police suspect might have been caused by drunk driving.

The driver of the car, Tomas Torres, 26, of Garden Grove, was arrested after being taken to hospital for treatment of head and upper body injuries on suspicion of a felony DUI.

The Dodge Neon was speeding down the street in the middle lane and when it came up behind a slower moving car, Torres attempted to switch lanes, overcompensating and causing the car to skid on its side, witnesses said. The car continued its skid across three lanes, hopped a curb, hit a palm tree and then a trailer attached to a Ford Expedition. The impact caused the car to roll over and sent debris flying up to 45 feet away, authorities said.

All of the passengers sustained moderate to severe injuries.

Rescue crews had to use heavy equipment to get the men out of the vehicle, said Sgt. Stephanie Selinske. The driver is at UCI Medical Center and others were taken to nearby local hospitals in Santa Ana and Mission Viejo. All are expected to survive, Selinske said.
