NCAA West Regional

NORTHRIDGE — Costa Mesa High product Sharon Day won the women’s high jump Saturday with a mark of 6 feet, 1 1/2 inches at Cal State Northridge.

Day, a senior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, set the West Region record with the mark. The Big West Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, Day advances to the NCAA Championships beginning June 11 in Des Moines, Iowa.

So does her younger sister, Jasmin, a sophomore at Arizona. Jasmin Day finished third in the high jump Saturday with a mark of 5-11 1/4 inches.

Cal freshman Allison Stokke, a Newport Harbor High product, finished tied for 14th in the women’s pole vault. Stokke cleared 12 feet, 6 inches.

UC Irvine also had several people competing at the West Regional. UC Irvine sophomore Alisha Misiaita placed seventh in the shot put Saturday.

Misiaita had a mark of 50-7 1/4 inches in the competition at Cal State Northridge’s Matador Track Complex. Arizona State’s Jessica Pressley won the event Saturday with a mark of 57-1.

UCI junior Lauren Chramosta finished 11th in her section and 28th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.81. Angela Wagner of BYU won the event in 9:58.68.

Anteater sophomore Matt Lahti finished 29th overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 174-4 while senior Sky Johnston was 29th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:32.56.

NCAA championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The UC Irvine men’s golf team missed the cut Saturday on the Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Anteaters were one of 15 teams forced to complete the third round Saturday morning following the suspension of play due to weather Friday. UCI shot a 14-over 302 in the third round and missed the cut by six shots. The Anteaters had a 54-hole total of 919 and was 20th following the third round as the top 15 teams then advanced to the final round later Saturday.

UCI juniors Sean Shahi and Tim Cha, and sophomore John Chin each finished with a 54-hole total of 229. Chin shot 73 in the third round, Shahi 74 and Cha 78.

Senior Kenny Kim, with a 77, had a 54-hole score of 235 and freshman Max Greil shot 88 for a final count of 248.

UCLA won the NCAA team title with a 72-hole score of 1,194, Stanford was second at 1,195 and USC third at 1,196.

UCLA’s Kevin Chappell won the individual title with a four-round total of two-under 286 after a 76 in his final round.
