South Coast Plaza’s Borders bookstore presented 500 books Friday to Orange County Head Start Inc.

Orange County Head Start is a nonprofit organization that provides the community with childhood development programs, specifically targeting ages 5 and younger. The organization encourages families to create interactive environments for children, helping them grow educationally, emotionally and socially.

The Borders branch in Costa Mesa set up a donation program within its store for Orange County Head Start.

“Crystal Court Borders chose us as their charity to hold a book drive for,” said Beverly Morgan, executive assistant of Orange County Head Start. “They have been collecting books since April, and gave them to us today at their store location.”

All of the donated books were new.

“The lowest-priced book we received was $15, so all the books were really high quality,” Morgan said. “Borders provided customers with information on the book drive and invited them to purchase children’s books and donate them.”

Books collected will be used by those involved in Orange County Head Start to prepare toddlers for their education.

“Parents and staff will read the donated books to children,” Morgan said. “It is part of our program.”
