Local youth set city marks at track meet

Two members of the Laguna Beach Community Service Department’s track and field team captured first-place medals in their respective events at the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation finals Sunday at Warren High in Downey.

Christianne Kinder won the girls’ Division 1994 high jump with a city-best record jump of 4 feet 10. She broke her own record “” which she set last month at the county meet “” by 2 inches.

Brighid Burns won the girls’ Division 1997 softball throw with a mark of 132-2. That mark toppled the previous city mark of 132-0, set in 1981 by Kulani Chesley.

Also at Sunday’s meet, Lauren Thunen bested her city record in the girls’ Division 1998 400-meter run to 1 minute, 14.02 seconds (from 1:15.8) to finish in fourth place. Thunen was second in the girls’ long jump at 11-6.

Sydney Davison cleared 8-3 to take second in the girls’ Division 2001 long jump.

In girls’ Division 2000, Chloe Levine was fourth in the long jump (8-3) and Alexandra McKeown was fifth in the 50 (9.10).

In girls’ Division 1994, Marissa Merchant was fourth in the 100 (14.09) and eighth in the 200 (29.09).
