Alfonso Giovanni Osso died in his home on June 5, 2008. During the final days of his life he was surrounded by his family in a loving and caring environment. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives and friends.

Alfonso was born on March 4, 1919 in San Lucido (Calabria), Italy to Michele and Caterina Osso. He would be the second of three children. At the age of 17, he left Italy to America and arrived in New York. Alfonso is a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from January 1943 to November 1945. Alfonso was assigned to the famous 38th “Cyclone” Infantry Division, as a member of the 151st Infantry Regiment that trained at Fort Benning GA. The 38th was recorded in military history as the “Avengers of Bataan”. He fought in the battles of ZigZag Pass, Mariveles, and Corregidor Island. On April 13 1945 they attacked and destroyed Fort Drum, which resembled a concrete battleship. He met Carolina Bossio in New York and married her on February 23, 1947. Alfonso and Carolina raised two children, Caterina and Michael. In 1958, the family relocated to Costa Mesa, California. He retired from McDonald Douglas in 1989, after 27 years as a machinist. His retirement years were spent working around the yard tending to his many fruit trees and summer vegetable gardens. He enjoyed sharing his fruits and vegetables with the neighbors.

Rosary/Eulogy services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m at Harbor Lawn, 1625 Gisler Ave., Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1015 Baker St. Costa Mesa, CA 92626, burial service immediately following at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA .
