Newport Beach police seek a Redlands man a woman claims hit her while they were alone in a parked car on the Balboa Peninsula, police said Wednesday, days after a Sunday evening manhunt for him caused a stir among neighbors.

The woman, whom police declined to identify, claims Mark Torralba, 47, slapped her in the face about 5 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Evan Sailor said. She was treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

A San Bernardino County judge issued an arrest warrant for Torralba on May 6, court records show.

Police thought they saw Torralba around 32nd Street and Marcus Avenue at about 10 p.m. Sunday. The Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol and a police helicopter were used, Sailor said. Residents said they were told to go inside and lock their doors while police searched.

Torralba is on parole and still at-large, police said. Tipsters are urged to call (800) 550-NBPD.
