Lagunatics to perform for ill cast member

No Square Theatre will host “DeLagunatics,” a concert-style benefit performance that will donate all proceeds to Lagunatics alumna Deborah Harris’ medical costs. Harris needs a special electric wheel chair to provide her with breathing and other support in her fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The evening will present comedic, concert-style renditions covering everything about life in Laguna from tourists to parking and gay marriage to illegal immigration.

The cast includes Arts Commissioner Pat Kollenda, comedienne Roxanna Ward, Woman of the Year Bree Burgess Rosen plus other special guests. The show is narrated by Hollywood film critic and syndicated columnist Bill Harris.

Preceding the performance will be a gala party in the courtyard starting at 6 p.m. with beverages, wine and appetizers during a silent auction and raffle.

“DeLagunatics” will be in the Neighborhood Congregational Church’s Bridge Hall, 340 St. Anne’s Drive, from 8 to 10 p.m. June 21. The cost is $150. Call (949) 494-8061 ext. 14 or nosquare.org.

Lynn Epstein to host night of comedy

Lynn Epstein is hosting the “One Very Funny Night” comedy show at 8:30 p.m. July 19 in Laguna Beach.

The show features comics from Improv, Ice House, Comedy Central, E! and “America’s Got Talent.”

Appearing will be Tom Hayden, Laura Hayden, Tim Shaw, Vicki Hazlett, John Tomashefsky, Stephanie Paul and Robert Yasumura.

Gallimaufry invited to Fringe Festival

Gallimaufry & Greene Dance Company is heading back this summer to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest arts festival, to perform “A Night at the Movies.”

The festival runs from July 30 to Aug. 25 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The company was invited to perform in a “prime time” slot of 8 p.m. at the festival, which has shows running from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

Gallimaufry will have to raise a large amount of money to take its cast and crew overseas. Gallimaufry is asking subscribers to renew their donations to the company so the funds will be available.

In the past, Gaullimaufry Performing Arts has performed their productions of “Harlem Renaissance: The Life of Florence Mills” and the European premiere of “Del Shores’ Sordid Lives” at the Fringe Festival.

College opens summer gallery

Laguna College of Art & Design will launch its summer gallery from noon to 5 p.m. June 28 at Gallery 793, 793 Laguna Canyon Road.

Afterward, the public is invited to meet the artists at an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m.

Gallery 793 showcases the works of students in the Master of Fine Arts program, including paintings, sculptures and works on paper.

Works are for sale and a portion of proceeds will benefit ongoing programs of the college.

Admission is free, and the gallery will be open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Aug. 15.

Plein Air exhibition draws crowd

More than 200 people attended the Laguna Plein Air Painters Assn.’s Fourth Annual Best of Plein Air exhibition, June 5 at the Laguna College of Art and Design art gallery.

The show was judged by Jean Stern, executive director of the Irvine Museum, and 10 paintings were sold.

The first-place award, accompanied by an invitation to participate in the forthcoming Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational in October at the Laguna Art Museum, went to Jim Wodark.
