Sea Kings’ Ellis garners league MVP recognition

Corona del Mar High 6-foot-6 senior middle blocker Gus Ellis has been named Pacific Coast League MVP in boys’ volleyball after lifting the Sea Kings to a 8-0 league championship season.

The Stanford-bound Ellis led Corona del Mar (26-7) to the semifinals of CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Ellis, who amassed 237 kills and 73 blocks, was joined on the first team by CdM senior outside hitter Jeff Carlson, senior libero Spencer Brown, junior middle blocker Dylan Davis and senior Dillon Flinn.

Carlson, who’s headed to USC, led the team with 289 kills to go with 171 digs and 50 aces.

Davis recorded 236 kills and 47 blocks, Flinn had 188 kills and 116 digs, and Brown had 256 digs.

Junior Connor Bannan and sophomore outside hitter Weston Nielsen were second-team picks.
