OCC’s Hauser to USD

Matt Hauser, a Corona del Mar High product who pitched the last two seasons for the Orange Coast College baseball team, has signed to continue his career at the University of San Diego, his father, Peter Hauser, announced.

Matt Hauser was 7-1 with one save and a 2.82 earned-run average for the Pirates in 2008, helping them reach the Southern California Super Regionals.

Hauser worked 67 innings, allowing 71 hits. He walked 25 and struck out 34.

He chose USD over UCI, Clemson and USC.

In two seasons at OCC, Hauser appeared in 42 games, amassing a 12-4 record and a 3.26 ERA. In 113 1/3 innings, he allowed 126 hits, walked 51 and struck out 59.

Hauser said he would like to thank OCC Coach John Altobelli, as well as John Elliott, his freshman coach at CdM and with the Quakes youth travel team, for helping him develop as a player and assisting him through the recruiting process.

CdM’s Molnar honored

Noah Molnar, a junior midfielder for the Corona del Mar High boys’ lacrosse team, has been named All-American by the Men’s Coaches Council and the Orange County Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse.

Molnar, the Pacific Coast League Player of the Year, led the Sea Kings with 58 goals and helped them post an 8-0 league record to earn the league championship.

He ranked second on CdM in face-offs won (75%), third in assists (22) and fourth in groundballs (104).

CdM finished 16-4 and ranked No. 9 in the laxpower.com state rankings. The Sea Kings advanced to the semifinals of the Orange County Championship tournament, where they lost to St. Margaret’s, 9-5.

Local sailors lauded

The 2007-08 Intercollegiate Sailing Assn. All-American team includes four products of Back Bay high schools.

Newport Harbor High graduates Charles Buckingham and Justin Law were named Coed All-Americans.

Corona del Mar High graduate Adrienne Patterson was named to the women’s All-American squad, while Newport Harbor alumni Carly Chamberlain and Marla Menninger were named crew All-Americans.

The five locals were recognized June 4 at a banquet at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, R.I.

Menninger, a sophomore at Yale, helped the Bulldogs earn a ranking as high as No. 1 for its women’s team and No. 2 for its coed team. The Yale women’s team finished third at the ICSA national championships.

Law and Patterson weer both seniors at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Chamberlain was a junior at Georgetown, where Buckingham was a freshman.
