Hutchinson, Masson named Laguna’s finest

Laguna Beach High seniors Dana Hutchinson and Pierre Masson have been named the school’s Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively, for 2007-08.

The two were selected by the school’s athletic boosters, Athletic Director Mike Churchill said.

Hutchinson was a powerful force on the girls’ volleyball team that won a second straight CIF Southern Section championship last fall.

The University of Arizona-bound athlete concluded her prep career in late May by being selected as the girls’ Most Valuable Player at the 31st annual Orange County All-Star volleyball match.

As for Masson, he was the leader of a boys’ water polo team that finished 20-7 this past season and was named co-MVP of the Orange Coast League.

“This is a great honor to the culmination of four years at Laguna Beach High School,” Churchill said. “Both Pierre and Dana are indicative of the boys and girls who represent us all through the year in athletic competition. They are obviously excellent athletes, outstanding leaders and the best of the best of our athletic program.”
