Services planned for teacher Ted Wall

Theodore “Ted” Wall, a religious studies, ethics and philosophy instructor at OCC for four decades, died June 14 following a long battle with bone marrow cancer. He was 86.

A Laguna Beach resident, Wall began teaching at OCC in 1969.

In 1975 he was named chairman of the college’s religious studies department, a post he held until recently.

Before beginning his teaching career, Wall was a minister in the Methodist Church for nearly 20 years.

Wall graduated magna cum laude from Drew University in 1952 with a master’s degree in theology.

He also earned a bachelor of divinity degree at Drew in 1945 and a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in 1943.

He was active in the Rotary Club, Lions Club, church groups and the Mental Health Society.

He served as president of the Crippled Children’s Society.

Wall is survived by his wife of 24 years, Shirley, and six grown children: Aletha Green, Santa Clarita; Carolyn Richmond and Stephen Wall, Costa Mesa; Christine Miller, Santa Barbara; Susan Bobay, Newport Beach; and Stephen Corley, Grover Beach.

Survivors also include nine grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pacific View Mortuary, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar.

Following the services there will be a reception at Newport Beach Bay View Marriott at 500 Bay View Circle.
