BURBANK June 20 -Scott McGihon, 40 a former three-time South California Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur champion who attended UC Irvine eliminated 21-year-old UCI Anteater Tim Cha of Chino Hills 1 up at the 97th California Amateur Championship today at Lakeside Golf Club. College teammate, Bryan Harris of Newport Beach was ousted the day before by Cha 3 & 2. Both Cha and Harris will be returning to the UCI Men’s Varsity golf team for the 2008-2009 season. Cha will be a senior and Harris a sophomore on the 2008 NCAA National Championship qualifying team.

McGihon moves on to the final four players in the afternoon match to set up the championship round. Previous champions at this state amateur tournament have included Jason Gore (1997), Mark O’Meara (1979) and John Cook (1975).
