Carola Lilly Campbell, a Newport Beach resident since 1972, died peacefully in her home Wednesday, June 18th. She was born January 28th in Frankfurt Germany and became an American citizen in 1946. At this time, she lived in Seattle, where she began and ran a successful children’s store. The thing that impressed Carola most about her adopted country, was the power of volunteerism.

When she retired from retail, she moved to southern California and plunged into philanthropic activities. In Newport Beach, she was a member of South Pacific, which raises money for the performing arts center; she raised money for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and volunteered with an organization which helps fund arthritis research.

Every afternoon untill age 80 she swam for an hour. Carola was a fine bridge player and spent many afternoons bidding and making three no trump contracts.
